Nine Ways To Become An Encourager

To say "encouragement is important" is a huge understatement!  Without encouragement in some form, we would never get anything done!  This is clearly seen in our work together as Christians.  Therefore, we all need to work together to lift other people up and encourage them to get to work and to continue working diligently!  Here are some things that we need to do:

1. Appreciate the Power of Encouragement.  It is oxygen for the soul.
2. Believe in People.  If you don't believe in people, they won't believe in you.
3. Build Relationships.  The closer you are, the more you encouragement counts.
4. Walk Your Talk.  Model first what you would encourage others to do.
5. Show People You Think They're Important.  Ask for help.
6. Give People a Reputation to Uphold.  People rise to our level of expectations.
7. Reward What You Value.  What gets rewarded gets done.
8. Encourage Participation and Ownership.  People don't get down on what they're up on.
9. Raise the Bar.  Many people will stretch to success if challenged.
--adapted from John Maxwell's "The Choice is Yours"

All nine of these can be seen in the relationship between Jesus and His disciples.  Jesus appreciated the power of encouragement.  He believed in His disciples and worked to build relationships with them all.  He didn't just give commands, rather, He demonstrated how to live.  He showed His disciples that they are important in His plan to bring the lost to the Lord and He promised them a valuable reward, Heaven.  He has left this example for us to follow so that we can lift people up and encourage all to live their lives for the Lord and bring the lost to Him!  Are you an encouraging others to live for the Lord?  The Lord is not pleased with "discouragers!"

--David Deason

“Where there are no good works, there is not faith.  If works and love do not blossom forth, it is not genuine faith, the Gospel has not yet gained a foothold, and Christ is not yet rightly known.

Martin Luther

Every new day begins with possibilities.  It's up to us to fill it with the things that move us toward progress and peace.”
